This week, the LA City Council requested the City Attorney to draft a sidewalk vending ordinance that DID NOT include the property owner veto provision that BOMA/GLA and many other business organizations were advocating for.

Property owners should have just as much right in who sells what on their sidewalks as they do for those who pay rent in their properties. Unfortunately, a majority of the Council disagreed and instead asked the City Attorney to draft an ordinance that includes only an appeals process for surrounding property owners.

Thanks to Councilman Bob Blumenfield from the San Fernando Valley who made consistent efforts to support the property owner veto but was ultimately defeated. Check back in 3-4 months when the City Attorney gets back with a draft ordinance.
