Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee Chair Marguerite Anastassiou, Commonwealth Management, and BOMA/GLA senior staff Martha Cox-Nitikman met with L.A. Deputy Mayor Jeff Gorrell and senior officials with LAPD to discuss the sharp increase in unpermitted protests in downtown L.A. Ms. Anastassiou expressed the concern that the blocking of driveways, streets and freeways by demonstrators without any notice could impact the desire for companies to locate downtown. LAPD representatives said they continue to make arrests where injury to persons or property occurs, and are working closely with groups to keep marches lawful.

Commander Todd Chamberlain will address the committee on this topic at our April meeting, and the Special Events Unit of LAPD has asked for updated email addresses to ensure quick notification of downtown owners regarding protests.
