CALIFORNIA ENERGY BENCHMARKING REGULATION TAKES EFFECT JUNE 1, 2018

Several weeks ago, the State of California finalized the AB 1103/AB 802 Energy Benchmarking Regulations. As of June 1, 2018, all buildings over 50,000 square feet – with some exemptions – need to be benchmarked and data shared with the California Energy Commission. (Buildings in L.A. must request an exemption from the state regs and submit data under the L.A. Existing Building Energy and Water Efficiency Ordinance).

BENCHMARKING REGULATIONS FINALIZED

Leaders of several major real estate groups held a conference call this week with the California Energy Commission staff as the state prepares to launch the first statewide mandatory benchmarking program.

COMPLIANCE DEADLINE DRAWING NEAR FOR CITY OF L.A. BENCHMARKING ORDINANCE

The City of L.A. has begun implementation of the Existing Building Energy and Water Efficiency (EBEWE) ordinance passed last year, and owners have already started receiving letters to comply if their building is over 100,000 sf. The compliance deadline is July 1, 2017.
