BOMA/GLA TESTIFIES BEFORE COUNCIL COMMITTEE RE: SIDEWALK VENDING

BOMA/GLA Advocacy staff has been working with the Council on their sidewalk vending efforts since the discussion began. Commercial property owners have a large stake in the issue and want to make sure that the Council implements a system that balances the rights of sidewalk vendors and those of brick-and-mortar business and property owners. BOMA/GLA STAFF TESTIFIES BEFORE COUNCIL REGARDING CALIFORNIA WATERFIX

BOMA/GLA's Government Affairs Manager, Andrew Kratzer, testified before the City Council Committee on Energy, Climate Change, and Environmental Justice regarding the California WaterFix project. The WaterFix project is designed to upgrade Southern California's aging water system and provide water security to the area in a sustainable way. 

The WaterFix will lcreate over 100,000 new construction jobs and $7 billion dollars in employee compensation. After its built, the water delivery system will protect almost 1,000,000 statewide jobs. 

BOMA/GLA STAFF PARTICIPATES IN CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON HOUSING LINKAGE FEE

BOMA/GLA advocacy staff participated in a Los Angeles City Council Planning and Land Use Management Committee hearing today regarding the proposed linkage fee on new residential and commercial development. The proposed fee would impose a $12/sqft fee on new residential development and a $5/sqft fee on new commercial development to pay for affordable housing.

BOMA/GLA PAC STANDS WITH MONICA RODRIGUEZ FOR CD7

The BOMA/GLA Political Action Commiittee interviewed both candidates running for Los Angeles City Council District 7 - a seat vacated by Council Member Felipe Fuentes late last year. The two candidates going into the General Election on May 16th are former Public Works Board Member Monica Rodriguez and aide to Los Angeles City Council Member Paul Krekorian, Karo Torossian. 

BOMA/GLA PAC ENDORSES LA CITY COUNCIL MEMBER JOE BUSCAINO

BOMA/GLA PAC endorses and supports Los Angeles City Council Member Joe Buscaino in his re-election campaign. The Council Member was the first recipient of the BOMA Greater Los Angeles Local Elected Official of the Year Award. His leadership on issues such as sidewalk vending, sidewalk repair and his work on the AQMD board have proven his support for the business and real estate communities. 

BOMA/GLA PAC SAYS YES TO MIKE BONIN

The BOMA/GLA PAC officially endorses and supports Los Angeles City Council Member Mike Bonin. The Council Member represents Council District 11, which covers West Los Angeles, Brentwood, Venice, Mar Vista, Westchester, LAX and Playa Vista.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE MEETS WITH STATE ADVOCATE, VOTES TO OPPOSE L.A. HOUSING LINKAGE FEE

BOMA/GLA URGES SANTA MONICA CITY COUNCIL TO INCLUDE FLEXIBILITY IN SEISMIC RETROFIT ORDINANCE

The Santa Monica City Council held an informational hearing to gain input on a draft seismic retrofit policy. BOMA/GLA PAC Chair Phil Tate, Kilroy Realty, and Martha Cox-Nitikman of BOMA/GLA requested that extensions of time and provisions allowing for modifications be included in the ordinance so owners won’t be forced to apply for costly variances or face CEQA challenges over minor elements.

BOMA/GLA SUPPORTS BILL CLARIFYING RIGHTS OF HOMELESS ON SIDEWALKS

The L.A. City Council took action March 30th to clarify the rights of the homeless to keep their personal belongings on public space. Municipal Code 56.11 will now provide greater authority to sanitation workers when homeless individuals do not comply with requests to deconstruct tents or remove excess property during the hours of 6am to 9pm.
