PASADENA MEMBERS MEET WITH FIRE DEPARTMENT TO DISCUSS PERMIT ISSUES

On May 8th, Pasadena owners and engineers met with Battalion Chief Wendell Eaton and his staff, who laid out specific requirements for annual inspections as well as tenant improvement work. The BOMA/GLA Codes and Regulations Committee requested a checklist to share with tenants regarding annual inspections, and Chief Eaton shared his Common Hazards Checklist. DTLA REGIONAL COUNCIL HOSTS GOVERNMENT CONNECT

The BOMA/GLA Downtwon Regional Council put on a great Government Connect event yesterday at 915 Wilshire. Thanks to huge BOMA/GLA supporter HARBRO for sponsoring breakfast at the event and to Lincoln Property Company for hosting.

Over 20 Downtown property managers came to the event, which was open to BOMA/GLA members and non-members alike. In attendance were representatives from LAPD, LAFD, LADBS, LADWP, NASA Services, the South Park BID, and the Downtown Women's Center.

PASADENA FIRE MARSHAL PROVIDES UPDATE TO BOMA/GLA CODES AND REGULATIONS COMMITTEE

The BOMA/GLA Codes and Regulations Committee spoke with Bryan Frieders, Pasadena Fire Marshal, at its February meeting, and discussed of some of the challenges facing his department. The City is now using the Brycer software for fire/life safety building equipment compliance, and many of the initial problems have been resolved. Property owners should notify the Fire Department of continuing concerns.

Also, Pasadena now has its own Cannabis ordinance. Only 6 retail shops will be allowed in the city, one in each Council district. No cultivation will be allowed.

LA BUILDING AND FIRE OFFICIALS DISCUSS CHANGES FOR 2018

The BOMA/GLA Codes and Regulations Committee was briefed recently by the LA Building Department’s Executive Officer, Osama Younan, regarding 2018 changes to the plan check and inspection process. The Department will roll out a new online plan check system next month, focused on plans of smaller projects not requiring plan review. The goal of the online submittals is to speed the processing of tenant improvement and other plans through the city.

The BOMA/GLA South Bay/Playa Vista Regional Council hosted a successful El Segundo Government Connect at PCT in El Segundo today. BOMA/GLA members had an exciting and informative session with Pasadena Fire Marshal Bryan Frieders this morning in Pasadena. Fire Marshal Frieders brought in his entire staff for the hour and a half session with BOMA/GLA Pasadena members. 

BOMA/GLA CODES COMMITTEE MEMBERS DISCUSS WAYS TO IMPROVE PASADENA ELEVATOR INSPECTION PROCESS

BOMA/GLA’S Elevator Sub-Committee met recently with Pasadena Fire Marshal Bryan Frieders (in photo above) to discuss concerns with the plan check and inspection process for elevators. NORTHEAST REGIONAL COUNCIL HOSTS BURBANK GOVERNMENT CONNECT

On Wednesday April 5th, the Northeast Regional co-hosted a government connect with the City of Burbank. Departments represented including the Burbank Police Department, Burbank Fire Department, Building & Safety Division, Burbank Water & Power, Homeless Services Division, Economic Development among others. 

BOMA/GLA MEMBERS DEVELOP L.A. FIRE LIFE SAFETY COMMITTEE

Several BOMA/GLA members have formed The L.A. Fire Life Safety Committee to provide input and guidance to the L.A. City Fire Department. After the difficult roll-out of the City of LA Fire Life Safety Compliance Engine, the firms realized input was needed on fire life safety equipment procedures and policies. The Committee is the brainchild of Danny Venencia, AB & A Fire Life Safety Testing, and one of their goals is to develop a training program for fire department staff and testers.
