VILLARAIGOSA INCHES CLOSER TO NEWSOM

According to the latest Public Policy Institute of California poll, Antonio Villaraigosa is inching closer to frontrunner Gavin Newsom in the race to be the next Governor of California. The poll, released last week, has Newsom at 23% and Villariagosa at 21%. CA State Treasurer and fellow Democrat John Chiang trails them both at 9%. 

Newsom has led the race the entire time and although most of the other polls released so far do not have Mayor Villaraigosa as close as this poll does, it certainly shows that his message is gaining traction.

GOVERNOR BROWN DOWNSIZES CAL WATERFIX

Governor Jerry Brown’s administration announced a new phased approach to the California Waterfix. The new plan is to build a single tunnel, with a second tunnel possibly years later, rather than the previously proposed two tunnel solution due to inability to secure the necessary funding for the original dual tunnel plan. Funding for even one tunnel has still yet to be fully secured. The new plan is expected to encourage further funding and allow work to begin once environmental clearances and permits are obtained, potentially within the year.

BOMA/GLA leadership had a unique opportunity to sit down with Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom to discuss his campaign for Governor of California. The Lieutenant Governor was familiar with our friends at BOMA San Francisco from his time as Mayor of San Francisco and displayed a great understanding of our issues. 

BOMA/GLA PAC TAKES OVER NAPA

BOMA/GLA PAC boardmembers went to Napa, CA this week for the CBPA Strategic Issues Conference and the BOMA CAL Board Meeting. The California Business Properties Association (CBPA) is an association in Sacramento, led by Rex Hime and Matthew Hargrove, that advocates for commercial property owners on threats to our industry at the state level. BOMA CAL is made up of representatives from each local California BOMA and has its own seat at the table with CBPA.

BOMA/GLA LEADERSHIP MEETS MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA

BOMA/GLA board members and BOMA/GLA PAC board members were excited to meet with former Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa today at their second leadership lunch with a 2018 gubernatorial candidate. The meeting was hosted by BOMA/GLA members Hines and OUE at the Owner's Conference Room at US Bank Tower in Downtown Los Angeles. The lunch was catered by Homeboy Industries, a non-profit that helps formerly gang-involved men and women redirect their lives.

Members of the BOMA/GLA Board of Directors and the BOMA/GLA Political Action Commitee Board gathered together today at City Club Downtown and had lunch with Gubernatorial candidate John Chiang. Chiang is currently the CA State Treasurer and has embarked on an aggressive campaign to be the next Governor of California.
