WHAT TO DO WHEN PEOPLE TRESPASS AFTER HOURS

Officer Steve Koszis gave BOMA/GLA members a valuable new tool to protect their tenants and their property at the Northeast Regional Breakfast last month. BOMA/GLA members have had consistent issues with trespass on their properties and it is difficult for law enforcement to handle those issues when management/ownership is not available. LA CITY COUNCILMEMBERS MAKE HOUSING PLEDGE

Several LA City Councilmembers gathered together and pledged to support new housing in their districts. While they did not make a binding commitment, they did come forth publicy and support a resolution that calls on each council member to back the approval of at least 222 new units of supportive housing in his or her district by 2020.

Homelessness and housing are priorities for BOMA/GLA and members support policies and legislators who show a commitment to new housing of all types. 

LA CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS NEW MEASURES TO FIGHT HOMELESSNESS

As the public grows impatient with the issue of homelessness, LA City Council is considering some controversial measures to streamline solutions.  Among those solutions are reducing parking requirements and environmental reviews for homeless housing projects.  Additionally, the City is also considering making it easier to convert motels into temporary homeless housing.

BOMA/GLA HOSTS HOMELESS FORUM IN HOLLYWOOD

On Thursday April 6th, the BOMA/GLA Homeless and Community Awareness Committee hosted a forum in Hollywood to discuss the current homeless crisis and ways for businesses to volunteer and donate in a positive way.

The HCAC will be hosting a series of these events across Los Angeles County with the next one in Downtown Los Angeles. The committee is also working to develop a hiring program between our associate members and the nonprofit organization partners. MANAGERS CONCERNED ABOUT LACK OF FOOT PATROLS IN DOWNTOWN AREA

The BOMA/GLA Downtown Regional Council met and discussed their concerns about the growing crime rates in Downtown Los Angeles, especially in regards to aggressive pan handling. The increased perception of aggressive behavior and the documented increase in minor crimes across the city. At the same time, the Security & Emergency Preparedness Committ has approached LAPD about the issues buildings are facing with growing protests - in particular unpermitted gatherings.

The BOMA/GLA Government Affairs Committee will be taking on a broad range of issues in 2017, as various levels of government target commercial owners and businesses for additional regulation and as a source of funds. Here are our members and their subject areas:

LONG BEACH REQUESTS VOLUNTEERS FOR HOMELESS COUNT

The City of Long Beach is calling for volunteers for their Homeless Count on Thursdsay January 26th from 5am to 1pm. The city is also looking for a number of supplies to be donated to be distributed during the walk.

INFOGRAPHIC ON HOMELESSNESS IN PASADENA RELEASED

BOMA Greater Los Angeles in partnership with the City of Pasadena has released an infographic describing the current state of homelessness in the City and resources for businesses to deal with correlating issues. The document both describes programs the city offers to business and property owners and also provides examples of ways that the industry can assist in making a positive change. 

PASADENA PROPERTY MANAGERS CONNECT WITH CITY OFFICIALS

On Wednesday November 9th - BOMA/GLA building members connected with city officials from major Los Angeles city departments at Pasadena City Hall. The Northeast Regional Council hosted this event for all property managers in the area (both members and non-members).

HCAC - VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN SANTA MONICA

The BOMA/GLA Homeless and Community Awareness Committee will be organizing volunteer projects and offering donation opportunities in partnership with the City of Santa Monica over the next few months. After a meeting with the Santa Monica City Manager, BOMA/GLA has committed to work with the the Human Services Department and the Santa Monica Chamber to identify ways for property managers and tenants to make a positive change.
