CITY OF L.A. HOLDS BRIEFING ON PROGRESS OF PERMIT STREAMLINING EFFORTS

BOMA/GLA was invited by L.A. Deputy Mayor Ray Chan to attend a status update on improvements to the development process over the last 4 years. Representing BOMA/GLA were Codes Committee Co-Chair Althea DePietro and BOMA/GLA VP Martha Cox-Nitikman. While progress in the Building Department’s processes are well known, other departments provided additional details on short cuts and new service offerings, including the LADWP.

BOMA/GLA's Regional Councils identify issues in their area and work with local city officials to find mutual beneficial solutions. In almost every region - the plan check and inspection processes remain a major issue. Common concerns include the length for approval and inconsistencies among different inspectors.

SANTA MONICA MANAGERS MEET WITH SM CITY MANAGER RICK COLE

BOMA/GLA members met with Santa Monica City Manager Rick Cole on Monday October 24th to discuss important issues to the commercial real estate industry. Members presented examples of delays and inconsistencies in the Santa Monica plan check and inspection processes. The City Manager expressed his desire to engage in metric based performance measures in order to find where the delays are occurring and determine the best solutions.
