LAPD COMMANDER TODD CHAMBERLAIN TALKS WITH BOMA/GLA SECURITY COMMITTEE ON DOWNTOWN DEMONSTRATIONS

The BOMA/GLA Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee met with LAPD Commander Todd Chamberlain (in photo above) and learned that LAPD has modified their tactics in the last few years to better manage the increased number of protests in Downtown LA.

SECURITY COMMITTEE LEADERS ADDRESS MAYOR GARCETTI’S OFFICE ON INCREASED PROTESTS DOWNTOWN

Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee Chair Marguerite Anastassiou, Commonwealth Management, and BOMA/GLA senior staff Martha Cox-Nitikman met with L.A. Deputy Mayor Jeff Gorrell and senior officials with LAPD to discuss the sharp increase in unpermitted protests in downtown L.A. Ms. Anastassiou expressed the concern that the blocking of driveways, streets and freeways by demonstrators without any notice could impact the desire for companies to locate downtown.

MANAGERS CONCERNED ABOUT LACK OF FOOT PATROLS IN DOWNTOWN AREA

The BOMA/GLA Downtown Regional Council met and discussed their concerns about the growing crime rates in Downtown Los Angeles, especially in regards to aggressive pan handling. The increased perception of aggressive behavior and the documented increase in minor crimes across the city. At the same time, the Security & Emergency Preparedness Committ has approached LAPD about the issues buildings are facing with growing protests - in particular unpermitted gatherings.
