BOMA/GLA members had the chance to hear from Athens Services at the Westside Regional Breakfast in June. Westside BOMA members experienced a bumpy rollout but since then Athens services has been very responsive to BOMA/GLA advocacy staff and has shown a real commitment to taking care of BOMA/GLA members. 

MERCURY THERMOSTAT RECYCLING PROGRAM HELPS OWNERS AVOID PENALTIES

BOMA/GLA has been contacted by the Thermostat Recycling Corp. (TRC), a company set up under federal law to assist owners in properly disposing of mercury thermostats. Fines for improper disposal can be as high as $25,000, but owners can avoid penalties by using industry collection containers provided by TRC. To learn more, click here

City of LA Trash Franchise: Compensated Recycling and Demolition Debris

With the roll-out of the Los Angeles trash franchise there are still many questions about haulers, contracts, and pricing. While trying to figure out if you are going to have to pay an “Access charge” for the hauler to push a button, on a remote that you provide, to access your trash area or wondering if you will have to pay a distance fee for the hauler to bring your bins to the street, there is a lot of uncertainty.

New California Universal Waste Requirements

As BOMA-GLA reported last year, as of January first 2017 CALRecycle rolled out new building codes that will affect every building in Los Angeles. The new code contains an updated construction and demolition recycling requirement, taking the minimum diversion rate from 50% up to 65%, something that should not be too concerning for most building owners and managers.
