SPLIT ROLL PROPONENTS GATHERING SIGNATURES TO PLACE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT ON NOVEMBER BALLOT

Signatures are being gathered to place an initiative on the November ballot that would change Prop. 13 and significantly increase property taxes on commercial owners. Reassessments would occur every 3 years. The initial assessment would take place January of 2020.

BOMA/GLA OPPOSES COUNTY PARCEL TAX TO FUND PARKS

LA County has proposed a measure assessing a 3 or 5 cent tax per square foot on all parcels to pay for new park construction and maintenance. BOMA/GLA, along with BizFed and many other business groups, are opposing the proposal as currently written. Our letter to the Board of Supervisors argued

·         This square foot tax is a split roll tax unfairly burdening commercial property. The County has not shown why commercial uses should pay more for parks that are fundamentally enjoyed by people in residences.
