STREET VENDING UPDATE

This week, the LA City Council requested the City Attorney to draft a sidewalk vending ordinance that DID NOT include the property owner veto provision that BOMA/GLA and many other business organizations were advocating for.

Property owners should have just as much right in who sells what on their sidewalks as they do for those who pay rent in their properties. Unfortunately, a majority of the Council disagreed and instead asked the City Attorney to draft an ordinance that includes only an appeals process for surrounding property owners.

BOMA/GLA TESTIFIES BEFORE COUNCIL COMMITTEE RE: SIDEWALK VENDING

BOMA/GLA Advocacy staff has been working with the Council on their sidewalk vending efforts since the discussion began. Commercial property owners have a large stake in the issue and want to make sure that the Council implements a system that balances the rights of sidewalk vendors and those of brick-and-mortar business and property owners. See below for the transcript of our testimony. We continue to work with the Committee responsible for the ordinance and the individual Councilmembers and their staff.
